Week Ahead: School Starts, Bay Bridge Closing, The Big Easy Comes to Millbrae

A round-up of things you need to know for the week of Aug. 26 in Burlingame, Hillsborough and nearby.

Here are a few things you need to know to plan your week.

Back-to-school: Getting ready for school to start? The big day is Tuesday in Hillsborough and Sept. 2 in Burlingame. Click here to download the Hillsborough school year calendar. And here's a link to the Burlingame School District 2013 calendar.

Bay Bridge Closed: The Bay Bridge will be closed starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday and is scheduled to reopen the day after Labor Day at 5 a.m. when the new eastern span — a $6.4 billion project — will officially open. For details about how to get around while the bridge is shut down, click here.

43rd Annual Millbrae Art & Wine Festival: The Bay Area’s biggest Labor Day weekend event is set for Saturday and Sunday. Downtown Millbrae will become the “Big Easy” with a Mardi Gras-style celebration featuring two sun-splashed days of live music with headliners The Unauthorized Rolling Stones, Petty Theft, The Houserockers, The Kevin Russell Band, Fito Reinoso and The Reed Fromer Band, a juried show with 250 professional artists and craftmakers showing their latest handcrafted wares, festive food and drink,  an organic and green product showcase, home and garden exhibits, health and wellness displays, the “Classically Cool Car Show” and tons of fun for kids with the Streets Filled With Talent Music & Dance Showcase plus an ultra thrilling zip-line, bungee jump and an abundance of amazing amusements in Playland. All for free.

Fun Run: Don't forget to register for the second annual Spirit Run for Education, raising money for Burlingame schools. Race is Monday.
