Shelter Network Receives Four-Star Rating

Charity Navigator, a nonprofit evaluator, awarded Shelter Network its coveted four-star rating.

, the Burlingame-based nonprofit providing housing and services for homeless individuals and families on the Peninsula, recently received a top honor from Charity Navigator, an organization that rates nonprofits based on fiscal responsibility.

Charity Navigator awarded Shelter Network a four-star rating for the fifth year in a row, placing Shelter Network in the top 5 percent of the thousands of nonprofits evaluated by Charity Navigator across the country.

A four-star rating recognizes commitment to fiscal transparency, accountability and sound management.

“Receiving the 4-star rating from Charity Navigator is a testament to the strength of our efficient programming and our board of directors’ fiscally conservative guidance,” said Karae Lisle, Executive Director of Shelter Network in a statement. “We are honored to receive this distinguished rating for a fifth year, and will continue to strive for the highest standard of excellence, demonstrating our focus on delivering effective, cost-efficient services to our homeless clients.”

Charity Navigator’s method of analysis has been profiled by Forbes, Business Week and others, and the company evaluates more nonprofits than their closest competitor by ten times, making it a great influencer of philanthropic giving.

Shelter Network operates six facilities in San Mateo County located in San Mateo, Redwood City, Menlo Park and Daly City. Of the transitional housing participants, 93 percent return to permanent housing.
