The Peninsula Humane Society is hosting a rabbit adoption extravaganza, "Get Your Hands On Our Buns," this weekend in Burlingame.

The event, free to the public, will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the second floor of the humane society's Center for Compassion, 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame.

The event will feature at least a few dozen rabbits available for adoption, 50 percent off regular adoption fees (from $40 to $20) and 10 percent off rabbit starter kits and caging in our on-site retail store.

Specialists will be on hand to answer questions about rabbit care, diet, housing and house-training. Throughout the event, presenters will offer brief demonstrations on harness use and clicker training, grooming, nail trimming and rabbit massage.

The event is also geared toward people who are considering pairing their resident rabbit with a shelter bunny. They are encouraged to bring their resident bunny to the event. Humane society expert matchmakers can suggest which shelter rabbits might make good partners, and then facilitate introductions.

The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA annually places 150-200 rabbits into new homes.  Following dog and cat adoptions, rabbits are the most common. If properly cared for, rabbits can live 10-12 years.
