NDNU Students to Spend Thanksgiving With SF Homeless

The students will be prepare and pack meals early next week to bring to Golden Gate Park on Thanksgiving Day.

For the 20th straight year, students, staff and alumni from Belmont's Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) will spend their Thanksgiving in Golden Gate Park, sharing a meal with 300-450 people who call the San Francisco park their home.

According to the university's director of communications, Richard Rossi, "Thanksgiving in the Park" is a fully volunteer and donations-based program.

Volunteers will prepare and pack meals on November 20 and 21 to share with the homeless on Thanksgiving.

VET SOS, a volunteer-based project providing free veterinary care for the companion animals of homeless San Franciscans, will also be present to provide assistance for the attendees’ pets, and donations of dog food, leashes, toys, dog sweaters and other dog accessories will be provided.

The event is sponsored by NDNU’s Sister Dorothy Stang Center for Social Justice and Community Engagement and the NDNU Bonner Leaders.

The group will meet on the Stanyan Street side of Golden Gate Park between Oak and Haight streets, San Francisco from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22.
