30 Under 30: Zachary Herrera

Zachary Herrera is competing in the National Forensic League Speech Competition in Indianapolis.

We recently asked you to nominate young leaders living or working in North San Mateo County for Patch's "30 under 30" series recognizing young leaders.

We've been impressed by the talented and influential young people in our area. We'll continue publishing profiles regularly until we hit 30, and we invite you to continue sending nominations of people who you feel should be honored. To nominate someone, send an email to drew@patch.com with the person's name, contact information and a short description of why they are a young leader.

Name: Zachary Vincent Camacho Herrera

Age: 18

Occupation: Performer

Residence: South San Francisco

School: South San Francisco High School Class of 2012

What was your favorite part of high school? My favorite part of high school was just being with my friends. Whether it was speech, drama, band, folklorico, or swimming. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and hanging out with all the people that I met in high school.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

The accomplishment I am most proud of was being drum major for one of the most focused, and hard working marching bands I have ever known. I am happy to have been their leader and to have helped make the band an award winning marching band.

What will you miss about high school?

I will miss all the close friends that I have met over the years that are still attending South City High School. I will also miss speech and the wonderful coaching of Mr. Robert Hawkins, as well as his love and passion of public speaking.

What are your plans for next year?

I will be attending the University of Oregon and majoring in business management with a focus in marketing.

What are you goals for the future?

My goals for the future is similar to everyone else’s: go to college, graduate, and get a job. But one goal that I will accomplish in my adult life that I have always dreamed about from when I was a child is opening a restaurant. I will also continue on with performing and music throughout my life because it is my passion.

Leslie - you played a large role in getting Zach where he is today (yes we were set up, but that's another story). My little goat has grown up quite nicely. Thanks for you encouragement. Hi to all the PPP folks.
