San Francisco to Start Charging for Sunday Parking Beginning January 6

Cars parked at expired meters will get warnings during first two weeks of metered parking.

San Francisco residents and visitors should make sure they have extra change in their pockets this weekend because, starting Sunday, January 6, all parking meters will operate seven days a week.

City parking meters will be in operation on Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. everywhere in the city, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

The only exceptions will be Fisherman's Wharf, where meters will continue to operate on Sundays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and in the Port of San Francisco's jurisdiction along the waterfront, where they will operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

All parking meters will have at least four-hour time limits on Sundays, SFMTA officials said.

Parking control officers will issue only warnings to cars at expired meters this Sunday, as well as Jan. 13 and 20, before full enforcement takes effect later this month.

All meters will offer a pre-payment option for occasions that start in the morning and run into the afternoon.

In addition, all one-hour time limits in effect at San Francisco meters Monday through Saturday will be converted to two-hour limits in an effort to make time limits more consistent throughout the city, officials said.
