SamTrans Seeks Artists

SamTrans is teaming up with the San Mateo County Office of Education for the Art Takes a Bus Ride contest.

Elementary school students in San Mateo County will get the chance to see their own artwork on the side of a bus when they enter the San Mateo County Transit District's annual "Art Takes a Bus Ride" art competition.

SamTrans and the San Mateo County Office of Education are asking students to submit a drawing of a destination they visited after riding SamTrans and to include a depiction of people and a SamTrans bus in their artwork.

The agencies will pick six submitted designs -- two from each grade division ranging from grades one through six -- to be featured on informational cards inside SamTrans buses and wrapped around SamTrans' "art bus."

Participants may use a range of art supplies including watercolor paints, crayon, collage and acrylic paint to craft their contest entries, according to a statement from SamTrans.

During last year's contest, six winning entries were chosen from 350 designs submitted by San Mateo County students. Teachers, parents and others can find the contest rules and entry  form here.
