Former Mayor To Receive Community Honor

Rosalie O'Mahony will receive the Community Recognition Award at Monday's City Council meeting.

At Monday’s City Council meeting, former Mayor Rosalie O’Mahony will receive the Burlingame Community Recognition Award. Additionally, the council members plan to authorize naming the Broadway Pedestrian/Bicycle Overcrossing Bridge in her honor.

Members of the community nominated O’Mahony earlier this year, which was reviewed and approved by City commissioners.

Burlingame officials received letters for U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier and State Assemblyman Jerry Hill in favor of naming the Broadway Pedestrian/Bicycle Overcrossing after O’Mahony due to her advocacy in building the structure and her overall service to Burlingame.

In accordance with the downtown specific plan, Burlingame officials have been working to establish a central, open space downtown. The Post Office, its large front lot, parking lot and placement adjacent to a city-owned parking lot could make it the perfect location—depending on if a portion of the entire post office property goes on the market.
