Emergency Alert Test

San Mateo County will participate in the first, nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System this morning.

The 3.5-minute test will be heard via television and radio and will give local authorities the chance to make sure information can be broadcast to the American public from the federal government in Washington, D.C.

Residents do not need to take action. The test will be very much like local emergency alert tests, which begin with three tones and the words, "This is a test."
