City to Discuss Water Pipeline Improvements and How to Pay for Them

At Monday night’s city council meeting, representatives from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will present on the Crystal Spring pipeline construction that recently began on El Camino Real.  The seismic retrofit project will upgrade Crystal Springs Pipeline #2 to ensure in event of an earthquake, water can still get to Peninsula residents.

The council members will also discuss, among other things, funding sources for Burlingame Avenue infrastructure projects.

They have been working with downtown merchants and the Downtown Business Improvement District and are weighing options such as an assessment district, a combination assessment district with parking meter increases and completing only water and sewer pipeline improvements, which are estimated to cost $4 million, and not streetscape improvements, which are estimated to cost $9.5 million.
