The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board unanimously voted to approve a resolution to declare a fiscal emergency for Caltrain in fiscal year 2012.
It goes without saying that , with the board projecting that the railway is facing a $30.3 million operational deficit based on current budget and service levels.
Among the solutions the board is considering to minimize this budget gap is a closure of up to seven Caltrain stations, including the historic Burlingame Avenue station.
Following two hours of oral testimony from the public, the board declared a fiscal emergency with no discussion or further explanation.
The two hours of testimony came from a large turnout of individuals, each speaking under a less than one minute time constraint.
Burlingame Mayor Terry Nagel and Downtown Business Improvement District President Dale Ferrel were among the City of Burlingame representatives who spoke at the meeting.
