Trial Set For Caltrain Vending Machine Repairmen

Orvilla Taylor, 51 and Herbert David Todd, 54, are charged with multiple counts of grand theft and embezzlement for allegedly taking money from disassembled vending machines.

An April 22 trial date has been set for a pair of Caltrain-ticket machine repairmen who allegedly pocketed more than $40,000.

Orvilla Taylor, 51 and Herbert David Todd, 54, are charged with multiple counts of grand theft and embezzlement.

Both men were working for the San Mateo County Transit District when they were arrested June 29, 2010, according to the District Attorney.

According to San Mateo County D.A. Steven Wagstaffe, the suspects went out on service calls, removed the damaged machines and brought them back to the district shop for repair.

Wagstaffe said that the men disassembled the machines and took more than $40,000 before getting caught when a Caltrain audit unearthed discrepancies between recorded amounts and the actual receipts.

Surveillance footage showed the suspects acting in a suspicious manner when they were at the machines, Wagstaffe said.

The men are both out on bond for $150,000 bail each, Wagstaffe said.
