A pilot escaped serious injury Saturday when his small plane made a hard landing at San Carlos Airport.
The 56-year-old pilot had left San Luis Obispo in a Mooney M20J plane on his way to San Carlos, San Mateo County sheriff's officials said.
While touching down, the pilot realized the aircraft's wheels were still up but landed anyway, a deputy said.
The incident forced shutdown of the airport while crews cleared the plane out, authorities said.
