National Night Out Comes to Burlingame

Over 36 million people around North America will participate.

Neighborhoods throughout Burlingame are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the Annual National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Over 36 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime”. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

The crime and drug prevention event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Burlingame Police Department, will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

On August 6, from 6pm to 9pm, residents in neighborhoods throughout Burlingame are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with neighbors and police. Neighbors are encouraged to host special events such as block parties, cookouts, ice cream socials or neighborhood gatherings.

Police Chief Ed Wood would like to remind everyone that National Night Out is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. The night showcases the vital importance of police community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.

Residents who would like an officer visit a block party on that night should complete the online application. www.burlingame.org/nationalnightout2013
