Missing Elderly Pacifica Woman Case Continues to 'Boggle' Police

Nearly four weeks after 76-year-old Maria "Marlies" Jansen went missing, few promising leads have emerged. The case remains under investigation.

Nearly four weeks after an elderly Pacifica woman went missing, few promising leads have emerged, police say.

Maria “Marlies” Jansen, 76, was on the 900 block of Park Pacifica Avenue during the afternoon hours of July 25.  A told police they saw a woman matching her description on the 1500 block of Rosita Road later in the day.

Jansen's mysterious disappearance triggered a of an 1,100 acre swath of San Pedro Valley Park and the surrounding Park Pacifica areas, with infrared-equipped aircraft, mounted units, K-9 units, bloodhounds, and other trailing dogs deployed over a five-day period.

"We've put a lot of time and resources into that case," Police Chief Jim Tasa said.

Tasa said the case remains under investigation, with a police sergeant assigned to the case, but he acknowledged the best chance of finding her alive was during the early days of the investigation.

"(This case) has us boggled," Tasa said. "There's nothing new at this point in time."

Jansen is a 5-foot-5 100-pound Caucasian with brown hair and brown eyes. She may be wearing yellow “croc” type garden shoes and a dark colored jacket. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Pacifica Police Department (650) 738-7314.
