A Half Moon Bay police officer who stole $5,700 from the police officer's union was sentenced this week to 45 days in jail and two years probation after the judge reduced his felony conviction to a misdemeanor.
Askia Mohammed Johnson, 40, embezzled $5,700 from the Half Moon Bay Police Officers Association from 2008 to 2010.
He pleaded no contest to felony embezzlement, on the condition that he serve only local time and spend no more than 90 days in jail.
Before he was prosecuted, he paid back $4,000, according to San Mateo District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe, who unsuccessfully asked the judge to sentence the defendant to the full 90 days.
