Elder Abuser Facing Judge Monday

The Burlingame Police Department helped investigate a man for three years before arresting him for stealing $270,000 from local senior citizens.

A man who scammed elderly locals out of $270,000 is facing a judge on Monday.

James Keeton, 62, was arrested in March after a three-year investigation by the Burlingame Police Department.

Keeton is believed to have a pattern of befriending members of San Mateo Horseman's Association and St. Pius Parish in Redwood City and asking for loans that he never paid back.

According to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, Keeton would tell his victims that his wife recently miscarried twins and that his home was in foreclosure and he would pay them back with an inheritance that was tied up in litigation in New York.

The loans Keeton received ranged from $3,000 to $23,650, DA's notes reveal.

Keeton's preliminary hearing is set for Monday morning. He has been in custody on $250,000 bail since his arrest in March.
