Drivers in El Camino Real Crash Cooperating With Police
The man hit by two cars while crossing El Camino Real was a 58-year-old San Mateo resident.

The pedestrian who was killed when he was hit by two cars in San Mateo this morning has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner's office as 58-year-old Scott Van Dyke.
Van Dyke, a San Mateo resident, was hit around 6:15 a.m. on El Camino Real near state Highway 92.
One of the motorists involved, a 35-year-old San Francisco man driving a black Honda, remained at the scene, but the other driver drove away, San Mateo police said. That second car, a white Toyota, was tracked down shortly after the collision and the driver, a 67-year-old San Mateo man, is cooperating with police.
Police said they are investigating whether Van Dyke had come from a nearby homeless encampment. He was not in a crosswalk when he was struck, police said.
A stretch of El Camino Real was closed after the accident, and the California Highway Patrol initially shut down all Highway 92 ramps in that spot. All roadways were back open by about 11 a.m.

The pedestrian fatally struck in a collision early Monday in San Mateo has been identified as a 58-year-old man, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
Police say the victim's residence is still under investigation, and they are working to determine whether he may have come from a nearby homeless encampment. He was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The incident occurred Monday at about 6:15 a.m. on El Camino Real near the Highway 92 interchange.
Police say the reported missing second vehicle, originally reported as a white Buick, has been identified as a white Toyota, driven by a 67-year-old San Mateo man. The Toyota is being examined by traffic investigators.
The driver of the other car, a black Honda, is a 35-year-old man from San Francisco. Police say both drivers are now cooperating with SMPD.
Investigators are working to determine whether criminal charges will be filed, including the hit-and-run aspect, and any criminal responsibility for the fatal collision.
All fatal traffic investigations handled by SMPD Traffic are forwarded to the District Attorney's Office upon completion for final decision on any appropriate charges.
All traffic closures for this investigation have been reopened.
