DA: Man Threatens To Burn Parent's Home in Family Cat Fight

The suspect apparently wanted to see the family cat, but his parents wouldn't let him because the cat had recently had surgery.

A Daly City man who allegedly bit both of his parents and threatened to burn their home down during a fight over the family cat has pleaded not guilty to felony assault charges, according to the district attorney's office.

Yevgeniy Bolshakov, 26, entered his plea in San Mateo County Superior Court on Monday, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

According to prosecutors, Bolshakov returned to the Daly City apartment he shared with his parents after a short trip away over Thanksgiving weekend. Bolshakov apparently wanted to see the family cat, but his parents wouldn't let him because the cat had recently had surgery, Wagstaffe said.

In response, Bolshakov allegedly attacked his father, punching him several times in the head and biting a chunk of flesh out of his father's arm, Wagstaffe said. The defendant also bit his father on the elbow and the chin, according to the district attorney's office.

When his mother tried to intervene, Bolshakov punched her and bit her hand, Wagstaffe said.

Police responded to the scene and immediately took Bolshakov into custody. As he was being taken away, he allegedly said that he wanted to kill both his parents and burn their apartment, according to the district attorney's office.

He has since been charged with two felony counts each of assault and making threats, and one count of mayhem, Wagstaffe said.

Bolshakov's bail has been set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 16.
