Burlingame Police Help Issue 211 Citations For Distracted Driving

As part of the S.T.E.P. program, San Mateo County Police issue 35 percent more citations than the previous deployment.

On Feb. 20, traffic enforcement from various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County – including Burlingame Police – issued a total of 211 citations for distracted driving.

As part of the Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.), the officers made an excess of 225 stops in San Carlos, Belmont and the Redwood Shores area, according to Burlingame Police Sergeant Jay Kiely.

Stops and citations focused on right-of-way, distracted drivers, seatbelts and unsafe speed violations.

Police made a total of 35 percent more stops than the previous deployment.

“The number of stops and citations during this most recent deployment reflect a sustained enthusiasm for this program and traffic safety on the Peninsula,” wrote Sergeant Kiely.
