Burlingame Man Pleads Not Guilty to Assault Charges

Kurt Heiner pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges including assault.

A Burlingame man accused of threatening to kill his girlfriend before strangling her unconscious pleaded not guilty Thursday.

According to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office, Kurt Heiner and the victim lived together and were in a six-year relationship. The woman returned home from a trip abroad and found items were missing of hers from his locked safety box.

When the woman said she would call the police, Heiner responded that he possessed a gun and would kill her.

According to the District Attorney’s office, Heiner strangled the woman unconscious when she tried calling 9-1-1 and smashed her phone. She then fled the home and was seen by another citizen who called police.

The case was set for jury trial November 6 at 8:45 p.m. Heiner is out of custody on $175,000 bail.
