Burlingame iPad Thief Awaits Sentence

Nicholas Anthony Simat, the 26-year-old Pleasanton man who stole iPhones and iPads from businesses in Burlingame, South San Francisco and Daly City, is sitting in jail as he waits to find out how long his sentence will be.

In late February, Simat was arrested after surveillance photos of him were plastered across the Bay Area.

He was wanted for a string of similar crimes in which he would enter a business (insurance company, furniture store, car dealership, etc.) and linger in the sales area. He would then ask an employee for a glass of water, and while alone near the front desk he would steal electronic items and flee the business, according to San Mateo County District Attorney's Office notes.

Simat entered a no contest plea in early May to felony burglary and has remained in custody on $100,000 bail since.

In court on Friday, a judge pushed back his sentencing until July 30.
