Firefighters contained a one-alarm brush fire in an unincorporated area of San Mateo County near state Highway 1 this afternoon, a fire battalion chief said.

Crews were called to reports of a fire just south of Half Moon Bay near the intersection of Highway 1 and Verde Road around 2:20 p.m., according to Coastside Fire Protection District Fire Battalion Chief Ari Belay.

Belay said the fire burned about 2.5 acres of grass and brush.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire by 3:30 p.m., and no structures were threatened, he said.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
