A firefighter also injured his hand and had to get stitches, apparently from some broken glass during the rescue efforts.

The fire on a cul-de-sac on the 100 block of Lake Drive was reported at 8:45 a.m., and firefighters were able to extinguish it just before 9 a.m.

Deputy Fire Chief Dave Dowling said the fire started in the hallway of the two-story home. There were multiple people in the home—at least three people were upstairs—when the blaze occurred, Dowling said.

A 69-year-old man was burned and was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

A woman, who was upstairs with the child, was also taken to a hospital and remains in critical condition.

Construction workers who were working on a home next door were able to rescue one man from a front bedroom, Dowling said.

An elderly man was able to escape through one of the upstairs windows, and others escaped as well, Dowling said.

The blaze has left at least $100,000 in damage to the home, Dowling said.

More information about the victims isn't currently available.

Update 12:10 p.m.:

At least two people were injured in a house fire in San Bruno this morning, including a child, according to witnesses at the scene.

The two-alarm fire in the 100 block of Lake Drive was reported at 8:45 a.m. and extinguished just before 9 a.m., according to San Mateo County fire dispatchers.

Two people were taken away by ambulance, including a child and an adult, according to a neighbor.

The residents of the house are a couple in their 60s and longtime residents of the Lake Drive cul de sac, and the child is their grandchild, said the neighbor, who gave her name only as Meg.

Smoke was visible before fire trucks arrived on the scene, and three construction workers in a neighboring building helped people get out of the house, Meg said.

"There were three young men who went inside the house," she said. "I think that really made a significant difference."

Fire officials were not immediately available to provide more information about the fire or the extent of the victims' injuries.
