A 57-year-old man who was killed while crossing a street in San Bruno on Sunday has been identified as Bernabe Lactawen, according to the San Francisco medical examiner's office.

Police said Lactawen, a San Bruno resident, was crossing against a red light on El Camino Real at Jenevein Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle struck him.

Maybe if he had been transported to a LOCAL hospital, he would have survived.

The El Camino Real at Jenevein Avenue intersection is of the type, criminally common on the El Camino, that gives crosswalks a bad name. The turning traffic without stop on red is impossible to enforce as is red light running. The bus stop, short walk signal crossing time, and long walking distances between destinations are designed in dangers when mixed with distracted and or speeding drivers.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family... Bernabe was always so very friendly a funny guy he walked all over SB always made it a point to stop by and say hello what a tragedy ..... I wish people would just slow down and take time for pedestrians .....rest in peace
