Local Author Edward Anders to speak at Burlingame Library

Local Author Edward Anders to speak about his book, Amidst Latvians During the Holocaust, at Burlingame Library, October 19th.

According to the Wikipedia page, Holocaust in Latvia, the German army occupied Latvia from June 1941 to late 1944.  In that period, among the victims were over 66,000 Latvian Jews, 19,000 German, Austrian and Czech Jews, unknown numbers of Lithuanian and Hungarian Jews; and an unknown but substantial number of Gypsies, Communists and mentally-diabled persons.

One survivor of that time is Burlingame resident Edward Anders.  Mr. Anders, author of Amidst Latvians During the Holocaust, which Kirkus Reviews named one of the best books of 2011, writes about his life in wartime Latvia and how, by an audacious lie, he evaded execution, ghettos, and camps.  At critical moments he got help from brave and compassionate Latvians and Germans.
