Summer Reading Was Off The Chart This Year!

Burlingame Public Library's Summer Reading Club saw record numbers of residents participating this year.

We began the summer with a huge kick off party attended by over 300 adults, children, and teens.  The kickoff was held in front of the library on the front porch.  Summer reading registration was surrounded by face painting, snacks, magicians, and a book sale.  It is safe to say, everyone had a great time.

The Children's and Teen's Summer Reading Clubs saw 1,095 kids reach their reading goals. That meant that a lot of free books, pizza coupons, and sandwich coupons were handed out as prizes.  Other prizes included weekly stuffed animals, gift cards, and the grand prizes of two huge stuffed tigers!

Every teen, all 245 of them, that completed their summer reading goal received a Books Inc. $10 dollar gift card. Also, each week one lucky teen won $25 dollar gift card to a local restaurant.

The Adult Summer Reading Club saw a 20 percent increase in registrations this year.  Total enrollment this year was 514 residents! All the excitement was generated by the gorgeous red bicycle that was on display above the reference desk all summer.  One lucky patron, Betsy Rosen, won the drawing for the bike the first week in August. In addition, five gift cards were given away during the course of the summer.

This is not to mention the 17 summer reading programs, attended by 1,485 people, that we hosted at our libraries! Were you one of them?

So congratulations to all our summer readers, you all rock!  And remember to keep reading!!
