Free AAA Safe Ride Program and Other Services for Intoxicated New Year's Eve Revelers

You don’t have to be a member of AAA to request a free tow of up to 10 miles on New Year’s Eve and the early hours of New Year’s Day. With the hope of taking drunk drivers off the roads, the auto club in Northern California is offering its free Holiday Safe Ride Program service from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Should you find yourself in need of alcohol-related roadside service, call 888-222-4357. Safe Ride offers a one-way ride for the driver and vehicle to the driver's home. If there are additional passengers, they will be taken to the driver's home as long as there’s enough room. You cannot make a reservation.

In San Francisco MUNI will be free from 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day. That includes cable cars. It won’t be free, but BART will be running trains every 20 minutes until 3 a.m. on Jan. 1.
