ART EVENT - Open Studios - PLUS

The Peninsula Art Institute is holding Fall Open Studios.  Besides touring 28 fine artists’ brand new studios and their gallery exhibition of “Small Works,” visitors this weekend will also enjoy two outstanding exhibitions by regional artists in galleries of the adjoining Peninsula Museum of Art as well as the Museum’s first annual fundraising Silent Auction + Sale “Art and Artifacts.”  Admission to the entire 18,000 SQFT complex is free.

Painters employing oils, pastels, acrylics, watercolors and collage as well as sculptors working in wood, stone, clay and assemblage will welcome you to their studios.  There is even a hat maker, jewelry designer, photographer and fabric/clothing designer as well.  During Open Studios many visitors actively participate in the art process, from painting to stone carving.  Live demonstrations scheduled for the weekend include:

Many of the artists offer classes.  Besides all the art and conversation, there will be light refreshments and at least 1 free drawing for an original work of art.

Especially interesting to children is the current Museum exhibit of  "Moving Parts" soft sculpture by Susan Else of Santa Cruz.  These fun and sophisticated works have adult appeal as well with their humor, irony and amazing mechanics.

The combined Museum and Studio Artist facility opened in March 2013.  Museum Director, Ruth Waters’ lifelong philosophy, that Museum and Artists needed to be connected, physically as well as theoretically, is reflected in this beautiful state-of-the-art building which promises to become a popular destination and an important art resource in the community for many years to come.
