Sawyer Camp Trail Slated for 3-Day Closure

The trail will be closed from Wednesday to Friday.

The Sawyer Camp Trail will once again close to the public from Wednesday to Friday so construction crews can continue seismic upgrades and prepare for the rainy season.

Once completed, the $320 million Lower Crystal Springs Reservoir project, will ensure that San Mateo and San Francisco County residents have access to water within 36 hours of an earthquake. Under its current structurual conditions, a major quake could disrput water supplies for up to 60 days, according to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

The Lower Crystal Sprigs Dam was built in 1890, and served as a design model for the Hoover Dam. The seismic retrofit to the dam is part of a $4.6 billion program that includes upgrades to the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System, which carries water from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park.
