Quotes and Comments of the Week

Soundbites from around Burlingame this week

“It’s very imaginative…I think our theory is that the kids really are the future and if they can imagine things that don’t exist, they can actually make them, and we’re trying to give them the skills.” Camp Galileo Director Elishama Goldfarb

“See, this is why I like Patch. Because you guys get the stories that would be ignored on tv news. You guys even got the picture. Good cover Dave.” Commenter Angessello

“It appears that an intoxicated male decided that he would threaten Bart officers with his knife after being requested to either leave the platform or he was going to be placed under arrest for being intoxicated in public. If the suspect decides to use deadly force such as wielding knives at the officers, then the officers have no other option but to protect themselves and the public around them…Officers have family too. Officers are not required to be assaulted on duty. It's not in their job description. I commend these officers for a job well done for protecting themselves and the public around them.” Commenter Mike

“If it’s a kid’s dream to play pro ball, I’m pretty sure he’s going to hop on it, and that was what was behind my decision,” St. Louis Cardindals draft pick Sam Tuivailala

“I would say they should base (the decision) on what they want to do, and whether or not they want to go to college. It’s hard to put a money value on that.” Tampa Bay Rays draft pick Kenny Diekroeger

“Sooo...if there's any risk at all.... make it illegal? I do not agree.
It is legal to cook in your home and/or back yard, right? Yet, every year countless careless folks damage and/or burn their homes down and hurt/kill family and friends in the process.
Lord only knows how many auto accidents there are in the county yearly...Driving is still legal...right? (if properly licensed)
Pretty soon the Gov't will force citizens to wear steel toed shoes to walk the sidewalk...as we may stub our toes...
I say legalize fireworks and mandate 'personal responsibility'!!” Commenter Patrick O’Flaherty

“Great post, in January an entry level home in Belmont sold with 5 offers. Fast foward to 3 weeks ago, another home, also entry level in San Bruno sold with 3 offers. it's not just the wealthy, these homes were purchased by first time buyers. If someone asks me hows the RE Market? I have no idea how to answer.” Commenter Phyllis McArthur

“I’ve definitely given (coach Liu) a reason to make me try harder at practice…Not that I’d go easy, but if I’m having a day where she thinks I’m not pushing myself sufficiently, she’ll say, ‘This isn’t the type of swimming that will get you to the Olympics.’” 2012 Olympic hopeful Tom Kremer

“The 200 butterfly is like my Golden Ticket. If everything lines up, if the other swimmers don’t have the best swim of their life and I do, there is a chance.” Kremer

“Your story says it all: beach combing and dog walking. Yet, Funston is for the brave. It's mostly foggy, cold and windy -- if the gliders are lucky. It's never crowded except for when the sun warms over 75 degrees three days per year of the once-in-while golf tournament that hijacks the parking lot. Except for the Batteries and ice plant, the landscape hearkens centuries ago. Very cool place!” Commenter Ted

“We take bullying seriously.” BSD Interim Superintendent Jud Kempson
