Picture This: The Past Three Months In Burlingame

Today marks Burlingame Patch's three month anniversary. A lot has happened since we came on the local news scene! In honor of this occasion, we're taking a photographic look back at the top 10 events and issues that got people talking over the last few months.

1) : Who could forget the feeling of watching the San Francisco Giants win the World Series? Fans packed the in Burlingame to watch the final game.

2) : As part of the ongoing high speed rail saga, story poles were erected to demonstrate the anticipated height and appearance of a potentially elevated high speed rail track.  five days ahead of schedule due to safety concerns from Caltrain. High speed rail ire ran  and has prompted both lawsuits and grassroots organization formation from Peninsula cities.

3) : The school year kicked off with modernization projects at Washington Elementary and Roosevelt Elementary and new building construction at Lincoln Elementary and McKinley Elementary. The construction and modernization is funded by the $48.3 million Measure A bond that was approved in 2007 for school facility renovation and improvement. The bond money also funded the controversial purchase of the old Hoover school.

4) : Although many downtown businesses protested the formation of a DBID, the advocates for the district came out on top after the city council approved their plan at a September meeting. Shortly after, a  was elected. 

5) : As Election Night rolled around, Patch was already deep in preparations to bring you the best coverage of local issues, such as the defeat of  and passage of  and .

6) : Although the  earlier this year, the community came together to raise the $70,000 necessary for keeping the branch open. Community members held bake sales and walked door to door raising money for the library.

7) : After more than 12 years of discussion, the Safeway at Howard Avenue and El Camino Real was demolished to make way for a larger, updated Safeway. The 45,645-square-foot space will include 12,428 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and 5,460 square feet of office space above.

8) : The football team took back the Paw this year with their Little Big Game victory against San Mateo High School. The traditional football game brought out crowds of community members anxious to see the coveted trophy safely returned to Burlingame.

9) : Hundreds of people from Gilroy to Brisbane braved the rain to rally against the California high speed rail. High Speed Boondoggle, a merge of grassroots organizations High Speed Rail-Peninsula Rail Engagement Project  and Don't Railroad Us, used the rally to educate the public on high speed rail and the issues members have with its current plans.

10) : Although Burlingame rang in the holiday season with its annual tree lighting, residents noticed something was missing. The traditional was cut from the holiday line-up this year due to budget constraints, saddening many community members.
