New El Camino Real SamTrans Route Launches

A new weekend ECR route launches Sunday.

SamTrans is combining two routes on El Camino Real and launching the new ECR weekend service today as a pilot project.

The new ECR route runs between the Palo Alto Caltrain Station and the Daly City BART station every 20 minutes through most of the day, serving all BART stations, Muni and Caltrain connections along the way.

The new route combines the 390 and 391 routes and will provide a single schedule that is simpler and more convenient, SamTrans officials say.

In addition, it is expected to improve on-time performance and provides greater flexibility to SamTrans in managing its bus schedules. The ECR route is the result of an 18-month study looking at ways SamTrans can better serve passenger. If the new route is a success, service on it could be expanded to weekdays.

This is not accurate as two BART stations are excluded on the weekend service. No service to either San Bruno or South City BART. As for Caltrain, either the 390/391 buses (they have different stops on weekdays, see schedule at SamTrans) serve a few Caltrain stations (Palo Alto, Redwood City, Millbrae) directly (meaning actual stop at station not on El Camino Real where either you walk or transfer to another bus).

It's still not bad. It drops off passengers on El Camino/McClellan, which is a short walk pass Starbucks onto SSF Bart. But for San Bruno, yeah, it may be a good long walk to the station through Tanforan. Probably saves the route about 10 minutes, plus it looks like they'll eliminate the line to downtown SF.

A short walk? What about Handicapped Seniors?
FAIL! Sam Trans is putting Profits before People!

It's not just you, it's all of us. I'll bet most of us have seen this happen all over town. PeopleRead More don't seem to be in the habit of checking for pedestrians, unless perhaps they're near a school. Drivers need to understand that they must watch, yield and wait. In large cities where there may be dozens of people in an intersection, drivers, for the most part, observe the law--there's safety in numbers. So when we're alone or in a small group, and find ourselves in a crosswalk around here, we all must remain alert and be ready to "jump out of the way" of some unobservant or inconsiderate driver.
