Cyclists Will Get Rolling Wednesday in Christmas Lights Ride

The public is invited to join in on Passion Trails Bikes' annual Christmas Lights Fun Ride this Wed., Dec. 19 at 7:00 p.m.

Who needs a sleigh when a bike can do the job--even at night.

That's what a group of cyclists will prove on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when they depart for their Christmas Lights Fun Ride from Passion Trails Bikes in Belmont.

Cyclists of all ages will take a safe (and police department-approved) route over-the-river-and-through-the-woods to Eucalyptus Street in San Carlos, ending at one of the area's biggest display of holiday lights.

Organizers Kevin Sullivan and Charles Jalgunassay the ride rolls along at a slow, social pace and is open to all ages. They suggest that young riders have some experience riding in traffic and bring lots of lights.

"This year we will retrace last year's 8-mile route, and have a slightly shorter route for families. Both groups will meet up just before the peak of the light show, and all will return to the shop after about two hours. I expect and encourage themed costumes and festively lit up bikes. Last year we had in attendance a couple of Santa suits and a tandem bike with a fully decorated Christmas tree on its rack!," said Jalgunas.

Sullivan noted that the Belmont Police Department will assist riders in making a safe left-hand turn from Ralston Avenue onto Sixth Avenue near City Hall.

The ride is open to all cyclists, and a shorter family route (5 miles) has been mapped out (see PDF to the right of this article). After the ride, participants will gather back at Passion Trails Bikes for refreshments.

The ride begins at 7:00 p.m. at Passion Trails Bikes, 415-C Old County Rd. (behind Napa Auto Parts). For more information, call 650-620-9798, or http://www.passiontrailbikes.com/
