Caltrain will offer free rides to passengers after 11 p.m. on New Year's Eve and add four extra, post-midnight southbound trains from San Francisco to San Jose.
The agency will run a modified schedule on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, with 40 trains operating between San Francisco and San Jose, including a round-trip to Gilroy.
On Christmas Day and New Year's Day, Caltrain will operate on a Sunday schedule.

On New Year's Eve, Caltrain will add four extra trains to make post-midnight runs from San Francisco to San Jose. Those trains will depart San Francisco at 12:45 a.m., 1:15 a.m., 1:45 a.m. and 2:15 a.m., making all local stops between there and San Jose. Those trains will be free of cost to passengers.
San Mateo County Transit District's paratransit services, Redi-Wheels and RediCoast, will also offer free rides between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve.

Caltrain does not allow open alcohol containers after 9 p.m. following special events.
