Inspiring Women to Make Their Health a Priority

Women's Health Conference on Dec. 1 in Burlingame features keynote speakers and workshops to inspire attendees to make their health a priority.

What do podiatrists think of high heels? How can you jumpstart your health and career? How will Obamacare affect you?

These and many other questions will be answered at an annual women’s health conference to be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Making Your Health a PRIORITY” is open to the community and will be hosted by Mills-Peninsula Health Services and the African American Community Health Advisory Committee at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront at 1800 Old Bayshore Highway in Burlingame.

The conference offers a variety of educational workshops and breakout sessions including (but not limited to):

  • Beating the Cancer Odds
  • The Devil Wears Prada: Podiatrist’s Advice
  • Taking Care of Your Mind, Body and Soul through Exercise
  • Citizens’ CPR
  • Living Well with Chronic Disease
  • Controlling Asthma
  • Understanding Obamacare

Two keynote speakers are headlining the women’s health conference:

James E.K. Hildreth, M.D., is Dean of the College of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Davis. An immunologist and professor, Dr. Hildreth directed the Center for AIDS Health Disparities Research, at Meharry Medical College in Tennessee. He was also a tenured professor and Associate Dean at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Hildreth’s area of expertise is how HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) enters cells and causes infection. December 1 is also World AIDS Day, so this is a special and timely opportunity to learn from an expert about the current fight against HIV.

Gloria Mayfield-Banks, is director of Elite Executive National Sales for Mary Kay, Inc. She earned her MBA at Harvard University and worked at IBM prior to joining Mary Kay. Today, Gloria is part of a worldwide networking sales business and is a motivational speaker on how people can create a better life for themselves.

Tickets for the conference are $50 (postmarked by Nov. 23) or $55 after Nov. 23. Online registration is available. This event sells out quickly, and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets will be sold on the day of the event or at the door. The fee includes Continental breakfast and lunch.
