"The Punny Show" Takes Center Stage in Council Chambers

Local performance troupe, Acting Out and About, will put an a one-of-a-kind comedy show in City Council Chambers Friday evening.

Acting Out and About is a troupe of about 30 local actors that sets the stage in improv fashion at numerous venues in Burlingame where one wouldn’t expect to see a live performance – including City Council Chambers.

If you haven’t yet witnessed their antics out and about, see them in council chambers Friday at 7:30p.m.

This group of local performance artists will be acting out an original compilation of pun-intended readings from anonymous authors in a production called The Punny Show.

Set in a news show format, station KPUN will share a few tall tales like the accident of the Easter bunny and the lesser-known history of Van Gogh’s family lineage.

Director and Acting Out and About founder, Cathy Foxhoven said the audience can look forward to “lots of laughs and big groans - puns produce a lot of groans.”

Overall, said Foxhoven, the show is “fun and light-hearted.”

Seven years ago, Foxhoven started an acting and performance art group called the Il Piccolo Players. Patrons of Il Piccolo Caffe on Broadway Avenue soon took notice of the troupe’s radio dramas and comedic improv sets. Not long after, Foxhoven began teaching acting skills through workshops at the Burlingame Parks and Recreation center, and Burlingame Community Theater was formed. That group underwent a name change in 2008, and Acting Out and About was created.

Through a seven-year run and a few name changes, this group has been inclusive of any community member interested in acting and performance. Friday, you don’t have to be on-stage to be a part of the experience.

When: Friday, August 19 at 7:30p.m.

Where: Burlingame City Council. 501 Primrose Road

Performances are free and open to the public.
