CORA Receives Hopeline Grant From Verizon Wireless

The Burlingame-based non-profit was one of 32 Northern California organization to receive funds.

Burlingame-based CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse), a domestic abuse prevention non-profit, recently received funding from Verizon Hopeline.

Verizon Wireless Hopeline awarded a total of $227,000 to 32 domestic violence organizations throughout Northern California, including CORA.

Hopeline helps communications, client transportation and programming of these organizations through a phone recycling program.

“Verizon Wireless is dedicated to supporting the work of domestic violence prevention organizations throughout the country and here in Northern California,” said Region President for Verizon Wireless Russ Preite in a statement. “Anyone can make a real difference by just visiting one of our stores and dropping off their old cell phones or any age, maker or model—it’s that easy.”

Phone collected by Verizon Wireless are refurbished and recycled and put to use helping victims of domestic abuse. Domestic violence prevention organizations benefit by receiving refurbished phones with prepaid airtime, as well as cash grants funded through the recycling and refurbishing of old phones.
