Burlingame Residents Practice Emergency Preparedness

Residents gathered for emergency drills Saturday.

If there were an emergency in Burlingame, would you be prepared? More than 100 residents gathered Saturday in five neighborhoods throughout Burlingame and participated in emergency response exercises. Together they learned communication and organization skills for how to act following a major earthquake.

Groups divided into teams and determined an Incident Command Center base before fanning out into the neighborhoods during the two-hour drill. They looked for emergency situations, which were posted on certain front lawns indicating scenarios such as trapped victims or house fires and reported back to the bases.

Bases were set up at Poppy Drive, Burlingame Drive, Victoria Road, Bellevue Avenue and Cumberland Road. The base leaders reported the emergencies in need of help to HAM radio operators who contacted the emergency operations center.
