If you are a small business owner and haven't yet jumped on the social media wagon and apply local marketing tactics, then you are losing customers and potential customers to your competitors.

Small business owners resisting social media and online marketing hurt or stunt the growth of their business and are giving their potential business to their competitors who are using social and local to interact,engage, and reward loyal customers.

Happy 2013 and welcome to the digital age of doing business in America.  I know that running a restaurant, spa and retail shop can eat up your time, so integrating social media and local marketing tactics seems overwhelming, time consuming and a chore. But you can't afford to ignore social and local marketing strategies and tactics, "Why", You ask?  Your competitors are on social media channels and utilizing local marketing tactics, so your potential customers will ignore your storefront and head over to another venue because they have a relationship with the manager, or with the venue due to their online interactions, coupons and deals.

Integrating social and local for your business starts with the right mindset, without that, you will avoid using social and local, but then wonder why your business isn't doing as well.  If you want to see a change in your bottom line, it's time to think outside the box, and experiment with 1-3 social channels and learn how to get your business found locally (since most people are using their phones and pads to search for you).

  • First become educated on the value of social media channels like Twitter, Facebook Business Page, Google Plus Business Page and Pinterest; There are millions of people on each of those channels for a reason.  
  • Read business case studies who are similar to your industry and learn from them.  Utilize some of their strategies and try to do it BETTER. 
  • Then learn how each channel work technically and how to implement your strategies. 
  • Learn how to manage your time with tools and dashboards
  • Get Your Business Listed in Local Directories and NICHE sites like Patch.com GooglePlus and Foursquare.

Think outside the box if you want to see results, drive new traffic to your venue and make new friends-who in turn become raving fans!

It's really about establishing new habits to connect with current and potential customers, enhance your online reputation and get known for offering great deals and wonderful experience.
